چکیده

Quantifying Anisotropic Heat Transport Atomically thin layers of van der Waals (vdW) materials demonstrate some the highest and lowest known values thermal conductivities in a solid material. In article number 2300081, Sergio Gonzalez-Munoz, Oleg V. Kolosov, colleagues use cross-sectional scanning microscopy to independently measure in-plane cross-plane conductivity nanoscale flakes indium selenide. The innovative approach allows directly explore highly anisotropic heat transport vdW their heterostructures.

Micro-thermal analysis: scanning thermal microscopy and localised thermal analysis.

Micro-thermal analysis combines the imaging capabilities of atomic force microscopy with the ability to characterise, with high spatial resolution, the thermal behaviour of materials. The conventional AFM tip is replaced by a miniature heater/thermometer which enables a surface to be visualised according to its response to the input of heat (in addition to measuring its topography). Areas of in...

Anisotropic thermal transport in MOF-5 composites

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of porous, crystalline materials with applications in the capture, storage, and separation of gasses. Although much effort has been devoted to understanding the properties of MOFs in powder form, in a realistic system the MOF media will likely be employed as dense compacts, such as pucks or pellets, to maximize volumetric efficiency. In these appl...

A new twist on scanning thermal microscopy.

The thermal bimorph is a very popular thermal sensing mechanism used in various applications from meat thermometers to uncooled infrared cameras. While thermal bimorphs have remained promising for scanning thermal microscopy, unfortunately the bending of the bimorph directly interferes with the bending associated with topographical information. We circumvent this issue by creating bimorphs that...

Thermal transport across atomic - layer material interfaces

Emergence of two-dimensional (2D) materials with atomic-layer structures, such as graphene and MoS 2 , which have excellent physical properties, provides the opportunity of substituting silicon-based micro/nanoelectronics. An important issue before large-scale applications is the heat dissipation performance of these materials, especially when they are supported on a substrate, as in most scena...
